![]() An extension cord for a typical single phase 240 volt welder, on the other hand, needs to carry a maximum of 50 amps at 240 volts. Long welding leads have to be very heavy gauge braided copper wire because of the high amperage they will carry. That's true, but they're not equally expensive. You said that extending the leads or making an extension cord for your stick welder are not cheap. I have since gotten an old Sears stick welder but need to change a receptacle that is by the door to get it plugged in and working. Nice too that I didn't have to do any special wiring for 220 volts. Not as good as a good welder but it does work if your need and/or budget is slim. I pulled the case apart and discovered a push in connector had come loose. The next time I tried it the whole thing didn't work. Can't adjust the length anymore but it's still in use today, so the little welders do work. I welded it up with the little welder and ground off the slag and roughness. I had a stay bar on my 9N break, letting the drawbar drop and the manure spreader attached to it unable to be pulled anymore. Just wanted to have something to use for small fixed around the place. I bought one of these a few years ago when I had little cash and little use for a welder, for $89 on a Black Friday sale at HF. ![]() Re: Harbor Freight 90amp wire welder? in reply to tom-ky, 11-09-2014 19:00:00 ![]()
